John Bertram Sams 76, of Arden, NC, stepped into his eternal home on Tuesday January 21st at the Elizabeth House, part of Four Seasons Hospice of Hendersonville, NC after a courageous, yet difficult battle with Multiple Myeloma.

He was the son of the late Robert Harold Sams, and Bette Greene Gaines, both natives of Asheville, NC

He was a 1966 graduate of AC Reynolds High School then went on to attend Montreat Anderson College with an Associates Degree in Business Administration. He spent a life long career in Medical Sales starting off with Savage Laboratories, then went on to further his career with Ames/Miles, later Bayer Diagnostics as a medical sales representative, retiring with Bayer after 30 years of service. John once again found enrichment working as Vice President of Keystone Laboratories in Asheville, NC for seven years. In his retirement he acquired interest in the world of Real Estate, obtaining his Brokers License with Wilkinson ERA working with the Hendersonville agency, then went on up until his death with Trusilo Commercial.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents in 2007. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marsha Elliott Sams, and son John Tyler Sams of Arden, NC, one sister Jeanie Christenbury (JImmy) of Concord, NC, two nieces Kelly Schwartz (Jason) of Charlotte, NC, Lauren Schwoebel ( Matt) of Mint Hill, NC, and great nephews, Parker Schwartz, Bryson Schwartz, and Will Schwoebel, along with many cousins.

John was a member of French Broad Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC He was an avid golfer belonging to Hendersonville Country Club for over 30 years, where he developed life long friendships with his golfing buddies. A devoted family man, who was a wonderful husband, father, and friend who always put others before himself.He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who was blessed to have crossed paths with him.

    • John was a good friend in High School. We had a number of adventures together. Last time we talked he told me of his battle with blood cancer. We talked extensively about the Lord and His goodness. I’m thankful I will see him again. Prayers for his family and the comfort of the Holy Spirit!

  6. What a wonderful person. John was a couple of classes ahead of me at Reynolds, but I got to know him better in real estate classes. His smile, and sincere interest in everyone he talked with, made the world a better place. You will be missed, my friend.

  14. John has been a friend for a very long time. He was an invaluable part of our pharmacy team when it came to outreach to the medical community and the expertise and professionalism he always exuded.
    More than that, John and I shared a love of Christ and would often talk about our faith and how we were known by the fruit we bear. John was a fruitful and faithful servant of Christ and he will leave a lasting legacy not only to his family but to all of us who knew him.

    I had the privilege to work with John at Keystone Laboratories years ago. I just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to work for John and get to know him. My husband and I both enjoyed talking with him and loved his personality. I got to see him a couple of times at the medical office I worked at later, and it was always a pleasure to bump into him. I was so saddened to hear of his passing and our hearts go out to you. Know that John touched many lives, even those you did not know and I am sure he will be missed all around. Anita & Robbie King

  18. I didn’t know John for a long time, but had the privilege of sharing time with him through our Myeloma support group. He was always upbeat, even when facing challenges, with a delightful sense of humor and great perspective. Even today, I pictured him in his rightful zoom box during our meeting. We remembered him, and honored him. He will be missed. My deepest condolences.
