John Slezak

john slezak
John Slezak, beloved husband of Kathleen for almost 44 years, died on July 13, 2015. John was born in Lansford, Pa. in 1923 and spent most of his life in NY and NJ. He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Kathleen and Mike Johnson of, Asheville, NC, and Candice Guth and David Pogel of Portland, OR; grandsons, MJ Johnson and Shawn Johnson and their families of Massachusetts; sister, Elsie; and several nieces and nephews. John was a talented craftsman and artist of furniture and stained glass, and could fix almost anything. He loved music and played the organ, saxophone, accordion and other instruments. John loved good (and bad!) jokes, nicknames, accents, languages, children, dogs and cats, camping, cooking, hot dogs, Asheville and most importantly, his family. John served with distinction in the U.S. Army during WWII from 3/1/43-1/5/46, serving in the 314th Inf. Reg. which was part of the 79th Inf. Division in the European Theater of Operation. He saw continuous action from Utah Beach, Normandy to Konigsberg, Czechoslovakia. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
