John W. Dennis
Asheville – John Wesley Dennis, 95, of Asheville, died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native of Lenoir City, TN, he was a son of the late Rev. A.B. Dennis and Nan Moore Dennis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Northcott Dennis, who died in 2003.
He was a graduate of Asheville High School as well as Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, where he was a member of the football, baseball and crew teams. John was one of the founding members of Groce United Methodist Church and was a US Marine, serving during WWII. He retired from NCR Corp. in 1982 with 42 years of service.
John is survived by two daughters, Kathryn D. Waybright of Smyrna, GA and Jane D. Flynn of Little River, SC; one grandson, Nathaniel Waybright of Smyrna; one granddaughter, Carolyn H. Sullivan of Kennesaw, GA as well as three nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Inurnment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Groce United Methodist Church, 954 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
