John William Bruce, 86, of 1052 Charlotte Hwy., Fairview, died on Saturday, January 17, 2008, at St. Joseph Campus Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Bruce was a son of the late Arthur and Sara Elizabeth Gentry Bruce. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ann Allman, and brother, Benjamin Paul Bruce. Mr. Bruce retired from Three Mountaineers, where he worked as a woodworker. He was a member of Oakley Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Clara Bruce; daughter, Sheila Robinson and husband Kerry, of Fairview; sons, Mike Bruce and wife Karen, of Oakley, and Jerry Bruce and wife Carolyn, of Arden; sister, Elizabeth Langford, of Weaverville; brothers, Harry Bruce, of Weaverville, and Billy Bruce, of Leicester; and grandsons, Gary Bruce, and Robert Wolfe. A funeral service for Mr. Bruce will be at 5:00 p.m. Monday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. Tom Pierce and Gayle Brown officiating. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. The family gives special thanks to the staff of the Laurels of Greentree.
