Johnnie Edward Harris

Johnnie E. Harris, 89, of Long Shoals Road, died Friday, February 4, 2005, in a local hospital after a brief illness. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late D.H. and Ella Davis Harris. He was preceeded in death by two brothers, Willard and Charles Harris and one sister, Mary Jo Ledford. Mr. Harris was a machinist with the Olin Corporation and was also employed with Otis Elevator Company. He was a member of the Valley Springs Lions Club and was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending winters in Florida with his wife. Surviving is his wife, Martha Taylor Harris; one daughter, Barbara Jean Harris of the home; three brothers, T.D., George W., and Robert L. Harris, all of Barnardsville and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Oak Grove Christian Church with Jason Cole and Gary Boschain officiating. Entombment will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral home at Lake Julian. Mr. Harris will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
