JOHNNY ALEXANDER BUTLER JR.
ARDEN – Johnny Alexander Butler Jr., 64, of Old Shoals Rd., died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late John A. and Rosie Ella Woodby Butler. He was also preceded in death by sons Keith Brackett and Christopher Butler.
Mr. Butler is survived by daughters Rosemary Slagle and husband Lloyd Slagle Sr., of Asheville, Sheri Butler of Arden, and Amanda Singley and husband Henry of Bryson City; sons Steven Butler and Johnny Butler III, both of Arden; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister Billie Sharpe and Gene Barnwell of Arden; and by dear friend Heather Cox.
A funeral service for Mr. Butler will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, with the Rev. Keith Dockins officiating. Interment will follow at New Salem Cemetery.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
My thoughts and prayers are with The Butler family. I am sorry for the loss of your father. I grew up with Johnny(Bubba),Steve and Bubba was one of my best friend growing up that is how I know Johnny. One of my memories of Johnny was him keeping Bubba in line. He loved and cared about his children and I know that his children will miss him deeply. Bubba and Steve I am so sorry for the loss that you are feeling at this time. My love goes out to all of you.
Johnny was a good man and a good father he will be missed by many now he’s gone home to be with God now he’s with Keith and other family members that left us way too early my prayers go out to the family

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I know things must look very grim and hopeless, but there is hope in the Lord. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Memories of my childhood would not be complete without the memory of Johnny Butler. He will be dearly missed by myself and many others whose lives he touched in his lifetime. We regret we will not be able to attend today’s services. May God richly bless and keep all attending his services as you celebrate his life. Jerry and Chris Cox

I was very sorry to read about Johnny. We were neighbors and friends most of our lives. My heart goes out to his children and Billie. My prayers are with you all.
