Asheville ~ Joseph A Johnson, 80, of Mills Gap Road, died on Saturday, March 18, 2006 in Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. Born in Haywood County on March 9, 1926 he was the son of the late Russell Alexander Johnson and Eliza Harrison Johnson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Grant, who passed away in 2000, also three sisters, Selma Duckett, Verna Henley and Mary Cox. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Cecilia Johnson Johnson two daughters, Sandra Lawrence and husband Jerry of Fletcher and Patty Johnson Woodford and Friend Ken Walker of Mocks Corner, SC; two sons, Joseph Michael Johnson and wife Sharon of Knoxville, TN and Cecil Johnson and Karen of Asheville; grandchildren, Thomas Ralph Lawrence, Jacob Frizsell, Kimberly, Ashley and Amy Jo Johnson; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Megan, Orion Lawrence and Caleb Frizsell; one sister, Glennie “Dot” Knight of Alabama and two brothers, Grady Johnson of Waynesville and Leonard “Bill” Johnson of Galax, VA; several nieces and nephews of special mention, Joe and Gail Sutton and their family of Waynesville. The family will receive friends at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road Monday from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. At other times, the family will be at the home of the daughter, Sandra Lawrence 40 Old Case Road, Fletcher. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338 Asheville, NC 28813.

  7. Cecilia, Mike, Patty, Cecil and family members. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this time of loss. Joe was a special person to me during some of my formative years. Our times at the Burger Chef, a great work ethic, times spent fishing with Joe & Earl at Cherokee and the eye openers before hitting the cold waters.
