Joseph Bynum Reese, 93, formerly of 728 New Haw Creek Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek. Mr. Reese was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Burgin and Dorothy Reese. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Lewis Reese and by his daughter-in-law, Kathy Reese. He was an electrician, retired from Hayes & Lunsford Electrical Contractors after 50 years of service, and he was a member the IBEW. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a life member of the Moose Club. Surviving are two daughters, Julie Buckner and her husband, Charlie, of Leicester and Kay Holbert and her husband, Glenn, of Swannanoa; one son, Ronnie Reese of Fairview; one sister, Jane Crisp of Greensboro; grandchildren, Becky and Kenny Wilson, Susan and Robbie Clark, Megan Salazar, Rhonda Reese, Reneé Reese, Ramona and David Peterson and Ron Reese and Earline; and eleven great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Revs. Jeanne Finan and Robert E. Reese officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

  1. It was Bynum and Cornelia that led me to Saint John’s Church more than forty years ago and for that I am thankful. I give thanks for his life and caring ways toward his family, me and mine. My thoughts and prayers are with Ronnie, Kay, Julie and all of the Reece family.
