Joseph Duncan Cameron, age 48, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 8, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on August 20, 1976 in San Diego, California. Joseph, known to his loved ones as Joe, was a graduate of Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, CA. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Management Science from the prestigious University of California, San Diego.
Whether it was in his profession as a financial advisor, or in his personal life applying his skill in mechanics, computer science, gardening, and home improvement, Joe was a “jack of all trades.” Joe’s sharp mind and independence in thought were matched only by his warm heart and generosity of spirit. Joe was a seeker of good and righteousness and was quick to reach out to support others. He had a sense of humor that always kept you guessing and a well-matched laugh that would light up his entire face.
Joe’s passions included music, nature, philosophical musings, but most of all, his family. Joe married his beloved wife, Sandra, in 2007 and together they had three children whom he treasured deeply. He was a devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his family in nature, tinkering with computers and other machines, and being a supporter of his children’s many talents and activities, including holding an esteemed role as a baseball coach. Joe also cherished his identity as a Cameron, and the lifelong bond with numerous relatives across the country.
Joe was predeceased by his father and best friend, William Duncan Cameron, in 2007. Joe is survived by his wife, Sandra Cameron of Hendersonville, NC; three children, Sofia Grace, William Duncan, and Pearl Aurora of Hendersonville, NC; mother, Carol Knight of Murrieta, CA; mother-in-law, Krista Kovac-Hess of Salem, SC; sisters, Cynthia Chapman of Hendersonville, NC, Stacey Call of Tyler, TX, Mary Nicole Watson of Yuma, AZ, and Shelley (Jonathan) Cameron-Cowart of Carlsbad, CA. Following the death of Joe’s father and his cancer diagnosis, his eldest uncle, John Cameron, and his wife, Pamela, of Kalamazoo, MI, generously and lovingly assumed a parental role in Joe’s life. Additionally, Joe was blessed with the support of his many Cameron aunts and uncles, Robert (Caryl) Cameron of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Mary (Mark) Mitchell of Stanton, MI, Margaret (Mark) Wilson of Charleston, WV, James (Deborah) Cameron of Greenville, MI, Richard (Deborah) Cameron of Stanwood, MI, and Patrick (Mary Kay) Cameron of Ballwin, MO. Joe also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joseph D. Cameron was a deeply loved and unique soul, and the void he has left behind cannot be filled. His singular spirit endures in our hearts and our memories of him will remain forever. Local arrangements have been made for Joseph’s burial at the Carolina Memorial Sanctuary in Mills River, NC by Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
Joe, you were one of the most charismatic young men we ever knew…and we were so blessed to become your relatives, too, when your precious sister, Shelley Grace, married our son Jonathan. We know that your “homecoming” was a joyous one for you and your loved ones on the other side; however, you will forever be missed by those who loved you here. Until we all meet again…may you find your eternal dwelling most delightful, indeed!
