Joseph Keith Winsey, 91, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
A native of Philadelphia, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph Charles and Anna Violet Oat Winsey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Grace Higgins Winsey, who passed in July, 2024.
Mr. Winsey proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Winsey is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Baxley (Steve); grandchildren, Anna Baxley and Keith Baxley (Lisa); and great-granddaughters, Isla and Ava Baxley.
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, services for Mr. Winsey were postponed. The graveside service, with U.S. Naval honors, is now scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Higgins Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, 170 Hawk Branch Rd., Burnsville, NC.
His family will gather at the home in Candler following the service for a reception in continuance of honoring Joe’s life.

Joe talk about when he was young. When him and Nell were dating. He told the funniest stories visiting Nell in Yancey County.. Joe was a good man he is missed dearly.
