Joseph "Larry" Edwards went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a native of Buncombe County. Larry was the son of Evelyn Allen Edwards and of the late Reverend Vestil Edwards of Flag Pond, TN. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Clyde and Dorothy Allen; paternal grandparents, Roscoe and Dullie Edwards; special aunts, Margie Burleson and Louise Arrowood and special uncles, Braskie, Dallas and Roy Allen. Larry leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his loving wife of 51 years, Bobbi Edwards; two sons, Dean Edwards and Brian Edwards and his wife Shannon; special goddaughter, Michel'le Cressman; sisters Freda Tipton and her husband Herman, Shirley Cecil and her husband Johnny and Anita Al'abed; aunts, Bernice Davis, Jewell Ledford and Ellen Banks as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry retired from Asheville Elevator after 26 years of service and owned Conveyor Service of Asheville. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday July 5, 2015 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, 72 Long Shoals Rd in Arden and will be conducted by Reverend Larry Sprouse and Pastor Phillip Youngblood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service until 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that you consider a memorial contribution in Larry's name to either Manna Food Bank, 627 Swannanoa River Rd, Asheville NC 28805 (www.mannafoodbank.org) or to the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville NC 28813 (www.carepartnersfoundation.org).

  7. Please accept my condolences. May you find comfort in the fond memories of your loved family member. The Bible also offers words of comfort during times of bereavement. 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 states God will comfort us in all our trials.

  8. Sorry for your loss, I knew Larry as a soft spoken man that never had a harsh word for anyone, he would smile every time I saw him, his suffering is over. My heart goes out to Bobbi and family……..

  9. Bobbi, I am so sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. I missed you at Special Olympics this year and I knew you were involved with pressing matters at home. Please accept my sincere condolences and thank you for your dedication to Larry and your sons in the same way you were dedicated to the children you worked with in school for many years I pray you will lean on God’s promise to never leave us or forsake us. You have always been a special person from my many memories in Barnardsville May God bless you

  10. Bobbie, Dean, Brian I am so sorry for your loss. You were a second family to me and I have memories I will never forget! I know it is going to be so hard without Larry but may God give you comfort as only he can. We love you.
