Joseph "Mutt" Russell Webb, 94, of 452 Dix Creek Road, Leicester, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at WNC Retirement Home. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Alonzo and Hattie Cox Webb. Mr. Webb was a WWII US Army veteran, retired after 44 years from American Enka and a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Morgan Webb; a son, Russell Eugene Webb and wife Leshia, of Candler; two daughters, Shirley W. Johnson and husband Robert, of Leicester, and Pamela Webb of the home; a sister, Edna Webb Meeker; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Surrett officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

  2. Ruth and family, I am so sorry about Mutt. He was there when I accepted Jesus and I remember it very well. Mutt was one of those people who engendered trust immediately on meeting him. He was alwas someone I looked up to and admired, as I do you. You two were very influential in my life and I thank you. I have a heart full of love and sorrow for you and Pam. And to the rest of the family, I’m sorry for the loss of a good father, grandfather and great grandfather. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all who feel the loss of this great man.
