Josephine Yarborough Thomas,
76, of 21 East Forest Road,
Asheville, died Monday, Nov. 9,
1998 in a local health care center.
A native of Gastonia, she was the
daughter of the late Edward and
Bessie Armstrong Yarborough.
Mrs. Thomas worked for the
Hickory Daily Record for 28 years as
chief bookkeeper and office
manager. She had previously
worked in the Admissions Office of
Converse College, was a member of
the Hickory Altrusa Club and served
two terms on the board of the
Salvation Army in Hickory. She had
been a member of the First
Methodist Church in Hickory and
was a member of Central United
Methodist Church in Asheville. In
Asheville she had been active with
the Mountain Area Hospice, Festival
of Trees and with the Grandparents
Program at Carolina Day School
and the Asheville School.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her
husband, Charles C. Thomas, Sr.;
son, Dr. Charles C. Thomas, II and
his wife Charlene of Asheville;
sister, Thelma Lambeth of Gastonia;
brother, James Yarborough of
Gastonia; three grandsons, Charles
C. Thomas, III and his wife Amy,
John D. Thomas, James E. Thomas
and a great-granddaughter,
Elizabeth Carolyn Thomas.
Services will be 2 pm Thursday in
the chapel of Groce Funeral Home
conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert M.
Blackburn, Jr. and the Rev. Christy Harley. Interment will follow
in Green Hills Cemetery.<BR
The family will receive friends from
7 until 8:30 pm Wednesday at the
funeral home.
