Josie P. Murray

October 9, 1920 ~ July 19, 1999

Josie Penland Murray, 78, of Asheville, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at the home of her niece, Sheila Meadows and her husband, Fred.

Mrs. Murray was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Maude Holcombe
Penland. She was married to the late Cameron L. Murray and was a member of Abernethy United
Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Luna Penland, and two brothers, Paul and Dick Penland.

She is survived by two sisters, Hazel Burrell of Asheville and Lee Fadden of Candler; a brother,
Grover Penland of Candler; nine nieces and nephews, nineteen great-nieces and nephews, and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Patrick Welch officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Sheila and Fred
Meadows, 74 Edwin Place, Asheville.
