Born in: Asheville, North Carolina
Resided in: Arden, North Carolina

Joyce Rosalie Lichtenfels went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2024 at 11:10 AM. She was surrounded by her daughters and niece. She was known for her fun spirit and love of the beach and swimming. She was diagnosed in her early 30’s with Multiple Sclerosis, which she fought so hard while keeping a joyful attitude.

Joyce was a member of the Junior League and used her ability to cook healthy, fabulous meals to serve others. She was an administrative assistant to the Headmaster at Asheville County Day School and served in a similar capacity in several other companies in Asheville until her M.S. became too challenging. Joyce donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society every month from the time that she was diagnosed until the time that she left us.

Joyce was born to her adoring parents, the late Irmgard and Alfred Lichtenfels on November 17. 1945. She loved and missed them so much. When Joyce arrived at her final resting place, she was reunited with the two of them, as well as her beloved sister, Carol Ann.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Hilliard (Marshall) and Jennifer Matthews (John); grandchildren, Ellie Rhein (Josh), Kate Rustand (Drake), David Leonard (Allison), Nathan Swink, Grace Swink; niece, Jill Pridemore; nephew, Scott Pridemore and beloved great-grandchildren, Johnnie Mae Rustand, Emerson Reeves Rustand, Iver Drake Rustand and Stella Anderson Rhein. Her greatest joy was reposting pictures of her great-grandchildren! Until we meet again, you will be loved and remembered.

Joyce’s family has the greatest love and respect for the staff at the Four Seasons Elizabeth House and Flat Rock. A special thank you to Robinson for his kindness and the love that he showed to Joyce while she was a resident at the Oaks At Sweeten Creek.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held in the very near future. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorial donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.
