Asheville – Juanita Davidson Wilkie, 81, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005. A native of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late George V. and Etta Hayes Davidson and had lived in Asheville for 35 years. She was a kind and gentle person who believed the best of everyone she met and was a most patient, giving and loving wife and mother. She was a graduate of Gardner-Webb College. Her strong faith sustained her through years of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and Alzheimer’s disease. Mrs. Wilkie is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years William Hoyt Wilkie, Sr. and four children, Judy Lancaster and husband Bernard, Jan Trantham and husband Victor, Joy Voigt and husband Tom, Bill Wilkie and wife Laurie, all of Asheville; her two sisters, Tonyta Brown and husband J.W. of Huntsville, Alabama and Tewannah Bradley and husband Coble of Asheville. She dearly loved and treasured each of her thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday in the New Hope United Methodist Church in Green Creek, NC, conducted by the Rev. Randy Blanton. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian where Mrs. Wilkie will remain until being placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Memory Assessment Clinic at Givens Estates or to the New Hope United Methodist Church, 4251 Chesnee Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
