Judith Saunders Herren, 92, of Candler, died on Monday, July 28, 2008, at Memorial Campus Mission Hospitals. Born in 1916 in Ela, NC, Mrs. Herren was a daughter of the late William B. and Virginia Morgan Saunders. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Meta Saunders, Renith Penland, Azile Warren, and Martha Justice; and brother, Webb Saunders. Mrs. Herren was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Electa Chapter #228. She was also a member of Hominy Baptist Church. Judith was not only a beautiful and generous person; she was a wonderful cook, seamstress and quilter. Most of all, she loved to be outside working in her garden. It was a showplace in spring when the daffodils and rock flowers were in bloom. In her youth, she was an excellent basketball player. But if you wanted to bring a smile to Judith's face, you would tell her the latest news about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Herren is survived by her husband, James B. Herren; son, Darrian N. Herren and wife Shirley; granddaughter, Michelle Anderson and husband Andy; grandson, Shannon Herren and wife Julie; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kayla, and Drew Anderson, Tyler and Olivia Davis, and Grant Herren; sister-in-law, Juanita C. Young, of Greenville, SC; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service for Mrs. Herren will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Hominy Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Dr. Joe Yelton and Dr. Fred C. Werham officiating. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers are appreciated, or memorials may be made to Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Rd., Candler, NC 28715.
