Judy H. Arendale

Judy Heatherly Arendale, age 78,passed away December 2, 2021 at the Laurels of Summit Ridge on Riceville Road. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. C.E. Heatherly of Galveston, Texas and her brother Henry Heatherly, PhD, of Lafayette, Louisiana.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Stephen S. Arendale MD, her children Stephen C. Arendale (wife Maureen), daughter Amanda Arendale (husband Nathaniel Sykes) and granddaughter Samantha Arendale-Sykes.

Judy was born in Galveston, Texas November 6, 1943. She attended Lamar University and University of Houston. She married Dr. Arendale in November on 1966. They spent 10 years in the Navy and moved to Asheville in 1975. She was active in volunteering at St Joseph’s Hospital gift shop for many years. She loved dancing and participated in numerous performances with Asheville Contemporary Dance Theater.

She went into declining health in early 2010, and passed away from congestive heart failure.

A visitation will be held at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Interment of the ashes will be held privately at a later date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers we ask that contributions be made to the Asheville Humane Society or Asheville Contemporary Dance Theater (acdt.org) in her name.
