Julia Vanderhoof Nash, 94, of Asheville, went to sleep in the Lord, at her home at the Deerfield Retirement Community on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Arnold Hines Vanderhoof and Marian Almy Sellers Vanderhoof. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Nash Sr., who passed away in 1996, as well as two sisters, Mildred and Jane. Mrs. Nash was an avid golfer and champion bowler. She also enjoyed volunteering at Mission Hospital, earning a pin for 25 years of dedicated service there. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who took joy in her family, she will be remembered for her unique personality and gentle spirit of love and kindness. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Edward Nash Jr. and his wife, Brenda, Arnold Vanderhoof Nash and his wife, Nancy; one daughter, Nancy Nash Stoutamire; nine grandchildren, Julia Nash Barker and her husband, Joel, Catherine Nash Gay and her husband, Will, Thomas Edward Nash, III and his wife, Marcia, Rachel Nash Russell and her husband, Richard, Carol Nash Humphrey and her husband, Bruce, Valerie Nash Gregory and her husband, Donald, David Burton and his wife, Carolyn, Elizabeth Neely and her husband, Gabe and Jason Stoutamire; eighteen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated caregivers at Deerfield who assisted Mrs. Nash during her final years. They extend a special thanks to Dr. Peggy Noel at Memory Care, Mrs. Nash's caregiver, DeBorah Reid, as well as Larry Taylor, Susan Wallahora and the staff at CarePartners (carepartnersfoundation.org). A Celebration Of Life Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 17, 2015 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, with Reverend Tonya Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 AM on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the funeral home.
