June MacLarty White Smith was born, raised and educated in Rochester, NY. She was born on June 16, 1923, one of seven children to Lucy Stinson of England and John MacLarty of Scotland. June was primarily raised by a single parent, her mother Lucy and has two remaining siblings, ages 86 and 92.
After high school June attended nursing school before marrying James White. Her plans changed to become a stay at home mom for her daughter Jackie and son James. In the very small town of Ontario, NY the family remained for many years. One of Jackie's fondest memories with her mother was the gathering of walnuts, distributing them to friends and making lots of oatmeal cookies. Jim remembers his Mom taking him fishing which was a wonderful time. June was very proud that at the age of 45, June attended the Rochester Dental Assistant School and graduated number one in her class. She and James then relocated to FL where the sunshine and warmer temperatures agreed with June.
June lived and loved her home in FL. In 2004 June's home was damaged by severe hurricanes which resulted in June relocating to NC to live with her daughter, Jackie. Knowing how important it was for June to maintain her independence, Jackie purchased a home with a separate apartment for her Mother. June was able to live in that apartment until she fell in July 2012. June remained as independent as possible until her 89th birthday.
June's favorite color was pink; her pastime was reading. She loved and cared for her three cats and everyone knew that on Wednesdays, June got her hair done.
June has two remaining grandchildren, Chris and Ashley. In March 2008, June was devastated by the death of her granddaughter Wendy. June's remains will be scattered with her granddaughters at a later date.
June will be missed by all that knew her.
