Resided in: Asheville, NC

June Rose Dillingham Roberts, 96, of Asheville, NC passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Daniel Dillingham and Essie Jarrett Dillingham. She was born in Barnardsville, NC on June 26, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was a graduate of Barnardsville High School and Cecil’s Business College. June retired from Asheville City Schools after 23 years as a secretary for the administrative office. She was a devoted wife, mother, and a faithful member of West Asheville Presbyterian Church. She was a very active member of many of the church groups and activities and always made sure her children and grandchildren were very active in the church’s youth program.

June was preceded in death by her husband Richard C. Roberts (Cline) who died in May of 2001 after 68 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sons Phil Roberts and Tommy Roberts, great grandson Oliver Morris, brothers Dan, Ted (Viola), and Rob Dillingham and sisters Faith, Peggy Ann, Olive Whitson, and Sadie Meadows (Bud).

June is survived by one son, Richard F. Roberts of Asheville, NC who was also her devoted caretaker; grandchildren, Lindsey R. Morris (Zachary) of Hendersonville, NC, Andrew Roberts of Asheville, NC, Phillip Roberts of Lisbon, Portugal, and Cortney Roberts of Madison, WI. She is also survived by her dedicated nephew David Meadows who was like a son to her, his wife Sherron, and their son Lane of Warner Robins, GA. Additionally, Corey Lenger, a loving friend of Swannanoa, NC.

Her family and loved ones always looked forward to gathering at her home on Sundays for a favorite dinner of chicken casserole, the best garden green beans ever, and her amazing pound cake. June was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves Baseball team, and UNC Tarheels basketball so that was always on for everyone to watch. She also enjoyed spending time outside caring for her beautiful flowers and nurturing her well-tended vegetable garden. The incredible garden bounty she grew year after year was then meticulously canned. June was the family matriarch with a kind soul and will truly be missed by all who knew her.

  3. Ricky, Lindsey, and Andrew,

I was deeply saddened to learn of June’s passing and I’m thoroughly disgusted with myself for not coming to see her recently…I hope you will accept my apologies for my negligence. The last time I talked to her she said: “Ricky takes good care of me…I don’t know what I would do without him”. Try to take solace in that, Ricky. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you begin to navigate these difficult times.

  4. We offer our condolences over the loss of your Mother/Mimi. Be consoled knowing June Roberts was well thought of and loved over the years and will be remembered fondly. Peace to all.

  5. Dear Family,
I send my deepest sympathies at this time of loss. I am a cousin to June. My dad (Henry Clinton) is her first cousin. I remember the time your family visited Dillingham Presbyterian Church when we were kids. My prayers are with you during this time.
    Sincerely,
    Bonnie Clinton Bullman

  6. Rickey, you were so blessed to have had a mom like June she was a lady so precious. As long as I have known her she was a Godly woman with a sweet smile. Thank you for the care you gave her in all you did for her and as her health declined. We will be thinking of you and pray for peace as you have great memories of your mom.
