Junius Elmo Anderson

Mr. Anderson was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Arthur C. and Emma Stamey Anderson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vera Bailey Anderson and by a son, Phillip J. Anderson.
He was a Navy veteran of WW II where he served in the Submarine Division. He was a 1st Class Deep Sea Diver and 1st Class MM served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
He was a retired Captain with the Asheville Fire Department and was a member of VFW Post 891, and the NC Chapter of DVA. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Biltmore Lodge No. 446, A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of Southern Trailways/Greyhound Bus Drivers Association, a member of NC Firemen’s Association, member of Asheville Chapter of Barber Shop Singers, and a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville.
He is survived by one daughter, Gloria Ballard of Black Mountain; one sister, Betty A. Lannom of Sarasota, FL; and four grandsons.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Dr. G. Hanfred Hamby and the Rev. Gayle Brown officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at Green Hills Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
