Katherine Gordon Capps

Katherine Gordon Capps, 85, of Asheville, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at StoneCreek Health and Rehab Center. A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Theodore Gordon and Bessie Willis Yearout. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Capps; daughters Cheryl Capps Huggins and Mary Louise Capps; sisters Barbara Bucklew and Dorothy Hensley; and by brothers George Yearout, Jr., and Ralph Yearout. Mrs. Capps was a member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by sisters-in-law Dorothy Yearout and Mildred Yearout; cousins Wilma, Barbara, and Sandra; and by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Dockery officiating. Interment will follow at Sluder Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church, 283 Merrimon Ave., Asheville, NC 28801.
