Katherine Gorrell Williams, 92, died on Saturday August 22, 2015 after a brief illness. Mrs. Williams was born in Asheville and is the daughter of James and Mae Gorrell. She was a nurse who spent most of her career at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a member and held many offices in the Daughter of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames, and the Daughters of the Colonists. She has helped many people in Western North Carolina trace their genealogy. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence David Williams. Surviving are her three children, Clarence David Williams, Jr. and wife Frances, Katherine Williams Creery and husband Presley, and Elizabeth Williams Pendergrass and husband Tommie; four grandchildren Lisa Creery Mackay and husband Richard, Rev. David Bennett Williams and wife Anna, William Presley Creery, and Hunter James Pendergrass; and two great-grandchildren David Stuart Williams and Margaret Sarah Williams. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Crossnore School affiliated with the DAR, Swannanoa Valley Museum, or Boy's Town. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday November 21 at Green Hills Cemetery. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
