KATHERINE M. DAVIS ASHEVILLE – Katherine Murphy Davis, 95, of 102 Holcombe Cove Road, died Monday, March 14, 2011. Mrs. Davis was born in Yancey County and had lived most of her life in Asheville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Myrtle Young Murphy; her husband, William G. Davis, who died in 2000, and by her siblings, Nell Riddle, Grace Boone and Howard Murphy. Mrs. Davis worked in sales at Bon Marche Department Store and at Tru-Fit Fashions. She had been an active member at Westwood Baptist Church and Skyland Baptist Church and most recently at Newbridge Baptist Church. She lived independently in her home in North Asheville until six months ago and she was always knowledgeable about current events. With her passing, the Democrat Party lost a strong member and advocate. She loved her family, flowers, gardening and cooking. She is survived by her son, Jan Davis and his wife, Ann, and their son Richard, and his wife, Stacy, all of Asheville, and a sister, June Hedlund of Marietta, GA. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 p.m. at Newdale Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Yancey County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to Newbridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804, or to Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.

  1. My heart is sad for Jan and his family, but I know that Heaven has a new resident. Aunt Katherine was a sweet lady and we will all miss her. She was also a wonderful cook and gardner. I would like to be more like her. God Bless you all. Joyce and Family

  4. Your mother was a joy to be around. I did her hair at the Villa and enjoyed her sweet spirit and loving patience. She will be truely missed.
