Kathryn Melton Horne

Kathryn Melton Horne, 73, passed away on October 25, 2022, in Asheville, NC, her home for over 40 years. Kathy was born in Onslow County, NC, to the late Woodrow Daniel Melton and Beatrice Carter Melton. She grew up in Hubert, NC, and was a graduate of Swansboro High School. She and her son Duane moved to Asheville with her mother in the early 1980s, where she graduated from Blanton’s Business College. She worked at several facilities in the NC Corrections System, and Buncombe County Board of Elections. She retired from the NC Department of Corrections as an Administrative Assistant, and was awarded the Long Leaf Pine award for service to the state of North Carolina.

Kathryn was preceded in death by both of her parents, and is survived by her son Clifton Duane Horne and brother Woodrow Daniel Melton Jr (Jane). She was a member of Abernathy United Methodist Church. Kathy enjoyed rescuing dogs and cats, gardening, southern cooking, and visiting with friends and neighbors.

There will be a celebration of Kathryn’s life from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022, in the Tunnel Road chapel of Groce Funeral Home.
