Kay Swope, the former Kay McClain Hathaway of Miami, Florida, passed away June 10, 2013 in Asheville, NC.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Ivan Lee Swope, Captain, USNR, retired. Her "little brother", Ethan Allen Hathaway, most recently of Ocala, Florida also preceded her in death.
Kay supported Ivan's 22 years in the Navy, living in different parts of the country, eventually retiring in Miami, Florida. Ivan spent a second career at First Federal Savings & Loan Association in Miami. With Ivan's second retirement, they moved to Melbourne, Florida, and eventually to Asheville.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Anne Hennessey of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Elizabeth Swope of Hendersonville, North Carolina; her granddaughters, Sarah Hennessey of Belgrade, Serbia, and Allison Hennessey of Kansas City, Missouri; many adored nieces and nephews, and a host of dearly loved friends.
Kay was devoted to her family and friends. She brightened each one's day with her compassion and sense of humor.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, June 14th, 2013 in the St. Giles Chapel at the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. The Reverend Tonya Hill will officiate. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm, Friday at the Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
Memorials may be made to the Deerfield Resident's Fund and/or to the Deerfield Employees' Fund.
