Kenneth Glen Elkins

Mr. Elkins was born in Buncombe County, was a son of the late Kenneth Cecil and Pansie Cleo McClurd Elkins, and was married to Fannie Roberts Elkins who died in 1978. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth James Elkin.
He was a US Army veteran, Second Batallion, 4th Field Artillary, which was the last mounted Cavalry Unit and was retired with 38 years of service from the District Office of Southern Bell where he had never missed a day of work. He was a charter member of Groce United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Schultheis of Swannanoa; three sisters, Dorothy Murdock and Frances Ruth Owenby of Asheville and Flora Gaddy of Archer, FL; two brothers, Paul Elkins of Salisbury and Richard Owen Elkins of Weaverville; five grandchildren, Jennifer Schultheis, Christopher Schultheis, Rebecca Hunnicutt, Ken Elkin and Shawn Elkin; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Hunnicutt, Connor Elkin and Emily Elkin.
A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. officiating.
His family will receive friends immediately following the service.
