Candler~ Kent B. Baker, 48, of 647 N. Morgan Branch Road died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 in an Asheville hospital.
A native of Cochecton, NY, Kent was the son of Betty Baker of Cochecton and of the late Owen Baker. He was a former employee with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department.
Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Aundi Barnes Baker; a daughter, Blair Baker of Fairview; a son, Zeke Baker of Candler, three step children, Emily and Nathan Barnes and Scotty Garner; a sister, Candice Baker and a brother Dennis Baker both of Florida and two step-grandchildren, Gracie Baker, Noah Clevinger and an unborn grandson, Zeke Baker II.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday at White Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in the Cochecton Cemetery overlooking the family farm.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00pm Thursday at the church.
The family requests that hardy root plants or dish gardens to be sent to the church instead of funeral flowers.
I only knew Kent a short while but he was always so up and had such a sweet smile it was a joy to talk to him. I don’t think he realized how many people he impressed by never complaining and just being a Great person. My condolences to you Aundi and the family. We love you.
I worked with Kent at the Detention Facility. I am very sorry about Kent’s death. I have been praying for you and Kent, and my prayers will continue for you and your family.
We worked with Kent. He was such a fun person to be around. He could always make you laugh. He will be missed. Our condolences to your whole family.
Kent was so pleasant to be around, and will be missed very much. He always had a grin on his face and made you feel good about yourself. God bless his loved ones and help them feel Kent’s love.

I worked with Ken when I was working court house security. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

I worked with Kent for the whole time he was with Buncombe Co Detention Center. I was his first Supervisor, Kent was an outstanding person & Officer.
