Larry Albert Sampson

Larry Albert Sampson, 74, of Leicester, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017. A native of Buncombe Co., Larry was a son of the late Lester and Lillian Gibson Sampson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gerry Sampson, and son, Brian A. Sampson. Mr. Sampson was a 1961 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Bell South/AT&T for 34 years. He was an active member of Newfound Baptist Church, formerly serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on the finance committee. Surviving are his son, Daryl Sampson and wife Cynthia; granddaughter, Abby Sampson; sister, Jeanette Butts and husband David; and brothers Julian Sampson and wife Dorothy, and Donald Sampson. Funeral services for Mr. Sampson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Newfound Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Maynard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. The family would like to express appreciation to Louise Reel, the Newfound Church friends, the BellSouth Retiree friends, and the CarePartners Hospice staff for the loving care they provided to Larry.
