Resided in: Asheville, North Carolina

Larry Cole Taylor, affectionately known as “LT”, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Larry was a native of Asheville and was the son of the late Herman M. and Grace C. Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne R. Taylor.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carla Calabrese Taylor; his only child, Stephanie Taylor Harris (Timothy); beloved grandchildren, Nicholas Taylor Harris, Tristan Reeves Harris and Amanda Harris FitzGerald (Michael); great-grandchildren, Harrison, Winslow and Shepherd FitzGerald; one sister, Jeanette Taylor Williams; one brother, Gerald Taylor and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Larry worked for 30 years at The Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Asheville. Upon the sale of the Bottling Company, Larry remained with Nash-Renfro Investments and continued with the Thomas E. Nash, Jr. family until his disease progressed. The Taylor family wishes to thank the Nash family for their kindness, generosity and loyalty over his many years of service.

Larry will be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was loyal and honest with an unequaled work ethic. He took pride in providing for his family and was incredible gifted at being able to fix anything. Larry was an avid golfer and spent much of his time at the Black Mountain Golf course, playing with the Geritol Gang. He walked the course, carrying his own golf bag, 2-3 times per week until he was 80 years old.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held starting at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 8 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden and will be streamed live via a link just below the obituary starting at 1:50 PM. The family will greet friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the Taylor family graciously asks that donations be made in Larry’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).

  1. Carla and Stephanie, Larry was a truly wonderful man. I am thankful that I got to meet him many years ago at our class reunion. He was always pleasant and an added treasure for us. May God bring you both peace.

  4. Dear Carla, I have just now read about Larry s passing. I am so sorry. At the last two reunions that Gene and I attended Larry was so nice to him (not knowing that Gene was so hard of hearing). I really appreciated him! Praying for you and your family.

  5. Praying for you and your family! May you cherish all the beautiful memories. Much love 🤍

  6. To my Angel Unaware and beautiful friend, Carla, I am so shocked to read of your beloved Larry’s passing. I know it has been a hard journey for you, sweet Carla, our precious Stephanie and all the family.

May God give His added grace to all during this time and in the days ahead.
What a great husband you had, Carla, no finer Dad than Stephanie could have asked for and all the love Larry gave to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I pray for God to hold each one in the palm of His loving hand and comfort all.

Carla, you know I love you so much. I send the deepest sympathy, love and concern to all.

    Love,
    Dianne Burleson Phillips

  7. Larry was one of the nicest persons that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and playing golf with. In the 25 years I knew him he was always soft spoken, had a gentle spirit and competitor! We miss you “LT”!
