Mr. Larry Kay Bolick, 70, passed away January 9, 2016, at the VA Hospice in Asheville, following a 20-year battle with cancer. He was a Vietnam War veteran who proudly served his country, returning home in June, 1967. He was the son of the late Arnold Z. and Ruth Kirby Bolick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ward, and his sister, Helen Keener. Larry was a successful entrepreneur and investor. He was involved with various businesses and partnerships including Bolick's Discount Tire, in Sawmills. He retired early in 1997. He was a member of the Hudson Optimist Club and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. He loved traveling, a good round of golf, a small wager on a football game or working on his Kubota tractor. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church, in Hickory. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan McKee Bolick; brothers, Ted, Dennis, Dale and Gary; and sisters, Hilda Bumgardner and Wanda Arrington. A military funeral and interment is scheduled 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US 70 Hwy Black Mountain with Chaplain C. Garland Vance officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research, 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513, www.jimmyv.org. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
