Larry Mathews, II, 51, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at his residence.
Larry was born into the Mathews family on January 2, 1973. He was a graduate of Enka High School, and continued his education at Haywood Community College before transferring to East Coast Bible School, where he achieved a Bachelor of Christian Education with a minor in Horticulture, in 1997. Larry was proud of his work as a Christian counselor at the Boys & Girls Club, in West Asheville.
Larry is survived by his parents, Larry and Freda; sister, Shelly Morrison (Steve); niece, Lauren Woolum (Nate) and great-nephew, Everette; nephews, Kyle Morrison and Jackson Mathews; and several cousins with whom he enjoyed sharing life.
Larry’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who helped care for Larry in the declining years of his life.
The graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Candler, at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The Rev. Tim Dove, and Bishop Steve Morrison, Larry’s brother-in-law, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to BAYADA Home Health Care or to a WNC storm relief organization of one’s choice.

Little Larry was one of my favorite people when we were kids. I don’t think anyone ever made me laugh harder. His fun and lively humor will always be a fond memory. Sending the family love, grace, and many prayers.
