Larry S. Whitaker, 89, of Fairview went to be with the Lord on Monday May 6th after a period of declining health.

Born in Fairview, he was the son of the late Theodore “Dode” Whitaker and Edith Goforth Whitaker.

Larry served in the US Navy and after his service, he was employed for over 40 years as a machinist with Tyco Electronics in Fairview. When not at work, he enjoyed his family, gardening and fishing. Larry was a member of Laurel Pines Baptist Church in Fairview.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a son, Larry Michael Whitaker and a daughter, Judy Whitaker Medford.

Larry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julia Darnell Whitaker, son Timothy Whitaker and his wife Diane, son in law, Mike Medford, grandchildren, Ashley Glenn, Amber Whitaker, Eli Medford, Chloe Medford, two great granddaughters, Magnolia and Ruby , brother, Ted Whitaker and sister, Lora Robinson.

Funeral services will be held starting at 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 9 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. His family will greet friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at Cane Creek Cemetery.

Eli Medford, Mike Medford, Karlton Glenn and Buddy McBrayer will serve as active pallbearers with Bruce Goforth, Bill Wright and Ted Whitaker serving as honorary pallbearers.
