Laura Ann Kirschner, 75, of Swannanoa, passed away on Friday, October 31, at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain. Born in Spokane, WA to the late Phillip and Esther Clark Lewis, she retired as secretary to the Director of the National Climatic Data Center. Laura loved animals and especially her dog "Lucy". She was a lover of the outdoors, water skiing competitions, reading and needlework. Surviving Mrs. Kirschner are her husband of 50 years, Gerald "Jerry" Kirschner; son, Joel Kirschner (Betsy), and two grandchildren, Brianna and Hannah Kirschner all of Swannanoa;and step-son, Todd Sommons (Martha)of Palm Desert, CA. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 7, at 11:00 AM at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road. Rev. Gerald Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Interment will be in Skyview Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 31 College Place, Asheville, NC, 28801.

    Thank you for your kind words. Laura and I had many fond memories of the Wild Life Club and the early morning skiing. We had hoped to retire at the lake, but God chose a different course for us. Thank you and love.

  6. Having worked with Laura for many years at NCDC, I recall fondly her ready smile and quick wit. Her death is a loss to all who have known her.
