Laura Edna Ouderkirk
June 16, 1904 ~ October 31, 1999
A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Berry Foster Barger and Flossie Lee Rogers Barger and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Hollis P. Johnson, who died in 1924.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, a graduate of the Harper’s Beauty Academy in Atlanta, GA and was former owner and operator of the Edna Johnson Beauty Salon.
She is survived by a daughter, Elouise Johnson Potter of Las Vegas, NV; a son, William Durward Johnson and his wife Dabney of Arden; three sisters, Dorcas Nelson of Savannah, GA, Hilda Helwig of Newport Beach, CA and June Groce of Asheville; a brother, Roger L. Barger of Asheville; 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 1 pm Saturday at the Church of the Redeemer with Fr. Hugh C. Edsall celebrant, assisted by Alexander H. Hanks. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the parish hall, following the service.
