Lawrence Jason Heil, 73, of 21-A Heather Way, Candler, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the VA Medical Center. Mr. Heil was born in Flushing, NY and was a son of the late Dewey and Frances Olmstead Heil. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn H. Ruocchio. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired Field Engineer and electronics technician. He was a former resident of Virginia Beach, VA where he was a member of the Masons, American Legion and VFW. In Asheville he was a member of the Optimist Club and attended St. George's Episcopal Church. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Meyer Heil; three sons, Lawrence Heil, William Heil and Robert Heil and wife LeAnn; six grandchildren, William, Casey, Annie, Megan, Alex, and Kate; and one brother, Dewey Heil. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Interment will follow in the Veterans Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
