Lawrence Lee Lunsford of Leicester, NC, died peacefully with family by his side on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Born July 24, 1961, Mr. Lunsford was raised on South Turkey Creek Road, where both the beauty of rural life and the influence of Appalachian Folk Music nurtured his big, loving, and generous heart. Lawrence will be remembered for his humor, for his faithfulness to family and friends, and for sharing what he had with others. He loved his John Deere mower, working on his truck, NASCAR, and professional wrestling.

Mr. Lunsford was preceded in death by his father, Blackwell Lamar Lunsford, and mother, Edna Tuck Lunsford. He is survived by his sister, Arlene Fox; brother, Kern Lunsford; cousins, Delores Tuck and Woody Tuck; and extended family, all of Roxboro, NC. Lawrence was the youngest grandchild of Bascom Lamar Lunsford, noted folklorist, and is survived by numerous Lunsford cousins.

Mr. Lunsford’s funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Western Chapel on 575 South Turkey Creek Road, with Rev. Hunter Preston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leicester Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 100, Leicester, NC 28748, Western Chapel Church, 575 South Turkey Creek Rd., Leicester, NC 28748, or the charity of your choice.

  2. So sorry to hear about Lawrence passing. I went to school with him at Laurel when his dad Lamar was a teacher there in the 60s. Knew Ms. Edna and she was friends with my Aunt Clara Craine on South Creek for years. Knew his family well. My Prayer for all the family.
