Leamer "Bud" Robert Barnwell, 84, of Fairview, died Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Elizabeth House.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Robert and Annie Sayles Barnwell. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Barnwell and one sister, Marie Stallings.
Bud was US Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Southern Concrete, where he worked as a truck driver and was a member of Emma's Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Leona Owenby Barnwell; one daughter, Yvonne G. Rutherford and her husband, Martin, of Fairview; one son, Dale E. Barnwell and his wife, Vickie, of Fairview; three granddaughters, Ariané Larch, Sarah Barnwell and Samantha Barnwell; one great-grandson, Kaleb Larch; three sisters, Beadie Morgan of Fairview, Margaret Ford of Waynesville and Ruby Barnwell of Canton and one brother, James Barnwell of Fairview, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Emma's Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Gene King officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery and the family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, 28731.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
