Leonard Cecil Hopps, Sr., 93, died Friday, January 23, 2015, at Aston Park Healthcare Center.
A native of Pleasant City, OH, he was a son of the late Alfred and Lela Gregg Hopps. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Violet Meadows Hopps, sister, Wilma Walden, and brother, Richard Hopps.
Mr. Hopps received the Purple Heart while serving with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a longtime member and Deacon Emeritus of Calvary Baptist Church, where he drove the church bus for many years. He retired from Kraft Foods.
Mr. Hopps is survived by his daughter, Linda Hopps Shuford and husband Gary; son, the Rev. Cecil Hopps, Jr. and wife Linda McMahan; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

My heart and prayers are with you all today. What a great life he lived in service to our King! It was wonderful visiting with Uncle Leonard before his passing. I am so happy he is now with his beloved wife Violet and his beloved Lord.

I remember back yard Bible studies at the Hopp’s and Mr Hopps cutting a frozen watermelon! As young people we were fortunate to have positive role models like him. He will be missed.Will have family in my prsyers.
