Lester Hensley, 89, of Leicester, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at his residence.
A native of Yancey Co., Mr. Hensley was a son of the late William Ervin and Lillie Mae Moore Hensley. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Lester Hensley, first wife, Lois Faye Spivey Hensley, and brother, Farrity Hensley. He worked hard as a logger/lumberjack.
Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hensley; son, Donald Hensley; step-daughters, Shirley Parton and husband Danny, Angela Steigerwald and husband Mike, and Donna Wiszowaty and husband Greg; sisters, Edith Buchanan and Betty Chandler; brother, Jay D. Hensley; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Mr. Hensley will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at New Salem Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Coxie officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
