Lida Louise Martin Starnes, 84, of Biltmore Forest, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016.
Born on January 5, 1932 in Lenoir, NC, Lida was the daughter of the late Hal and Johnsie Martin.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Larry C. Harris; her brothers, Harry, Jacob and Charles Martin; her sister, Virginia Bost and stepson, O.E. Starnes III.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, O.E. Starnes, Jr. and sons, Larry C. Harris, Jr. (LuAnn), Martin T. Harris (Kim), Hal C. Harris (Catherine) and Reginald C. Harris (Jeannie). She is also survived by her husband's children, Jane Starnes Fawcett (Jeff), Amy Starnes and daughter-in-law, Pat Starnes.
Mrs. Starnes loved and cherished her grandchildren, Justin and Jordan Harris, Noah, Virginia, Miranda and Morgan Harris, Hannah and Sarah Harris, Oscar E. Starnes, IV (Emi), Sarah Helen Rouse (Jordan), Christine N. Starnes, Scott, Morgan and Austin Green, Ryan (Calli), Allison and Benjamin Fawcett, Chris and Erica Liedtke, Eliza and Stephanie Harris, as well as her great-grandchildren, Helen Dean Rouse, Jackson E. Rouse, Fiorenza Starnes, Walter Fawcett and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Starnes was a graduate of Gardner-Webb College with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Mrs. Starnes was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and especially enjoyed her work on the Altar Guild. She was an active member of the Jr. Vetust Study Club, Town and Country Garden Club, and past member of the Children's Welfare League.
Services for Mrs. Starnes will be on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, followed by interment of ashes in the Church's Memorial Garden. The Reverend Carol Hubbard will officiate and a reception will follow in Tuton Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Trinity Church Memorial Fund, Trinity Episcopal Church, 60 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
Our condolences to the Starnes and Harris families. We truly have enjoyed the time spent with this family since our son Jordan has become Sarah’s husband. Lida was a wonderful lady who always made everyone feel comfortable and connected. She will truly be missed by everyone who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with O.E. And the entire family.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Mrs. Lida’s passing…we so much enjoyed her company in visits with her and O.E. at their Lake Summit house.

Lida was the epitome of graciousness and gentleness, a beautiful person, a blessing to all who knew her. With warm memories of the Harris family, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
We were so sorry to learn of Lida’s death. We haven’t been in touch in a while, but friends remain friends, no matter how long it’s been between contacts. Our sympathy to O.E. and the rest of the family.
