LILLIAN ROBERTA BASSETT Lillian Roberta Bassett, 65, of 69 Jefferson Drive, Asheville, died Friday, June 1, 2001. Mrs. Bassett was born in Buncombe County and was the daughter of the late Eugene and EmileT. Jones and was also preceded in death by a sister, Minnie Mae Shipley. She often assisted her mother selling flowers on Battery Park Avenue in front of Penney’s. She is survived by her husband, James M. “Pete” Bassett; two sons, John Bassett and his friend Calvin Fox, who also served as a caregiver for Mrs. Bassett, of Asheville, and David Bassett and his wife Angela of Leicester; one sister, Betty Lane of Biloxi, MS; and two brothers, Lark Jones of Louisiana and Johnny Jones of Asheville. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Monday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Joe Babb officiating. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the homes of David and Angela Bassett, 183 Goughes Branch Road, Leicester, or John Bassett, 695 Pearson Bridge Road, Lot, 11, Asheville.
