Linda Louise Cooke Smith passed away on the morning of Tuesday, March 29th 2016.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Otto Claude Smith, having just celebrated a 58th Wedding anniversary together on March 22nd, and her loving sons, Otto Claude Smith Jr. of Greenville, SC And Collin Monroe Smith of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Ann McCallister of Cary, NC.
A bright and vibrant member of the community in both cities of Asheville, NC and Gastonia, NC, in each town she made many friends and took part in several social and charitable endeavors. Working with the Girl Scouts of America, a member of the Junior League, Meals on Wheels, garden clubs and book clubs are just a few of the activities she took part in with aplomb.
She was also a lifelong and active member of the church. She was active in her adult life with both Trinity Episcopal Church of Asheville, NC and helped to start All Saints Anglican Church of Mills River, NC.
Linda was born in Erwin, NC and has a loving extended family in that region of the state, having always retained a strong connection to the town and the people of her childhood.
A service will be held in May at the Hawfields Presbyterian Church in Mebane, NC. No gifts or donations are requested, but may be made to the church itself in her name at 2215 South NC Hwy 19, Mebane, NC 27302.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
I’m so sorry to hear about Linda’s passing. She was always so gracious and kind to me when I worked at 20th Century. What a wonderful lady she was.
