Fletcher – Linda Gail Ray, 62, of Fletcher, died Thursday, September 15, 2022 at her residence.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Ned and Juanita Ray. She was also preceded in death by multiple aunts and uncles as well as a cousin, Brian Whitaker.

Linda worked for Buncombe County Schools Progressive Education Program for 27 years. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband, helping others, spending time with her family and taking adventures with her grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband, Richard Ray; three daughters, Mandi Carter of Asheville, Amanda Ray of Hendersonville and Ashley Ray of Asheville; five grandchildren, Kyndall, Jordan, Hunter, Covi and Zoey; one brother, Ricky Ray and his wife Karen of Fletcher as well as two nieces, Jami and Morgan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, September 17 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Linda’s family asks that you consider making a contribution in her memory to the Buncombe County Schools Progressive Education Program at pep.buncombeschools.org.

  4. When thinking of Linda, I find myself short of words. I’ve only had the pleasure of knowing her for about 5 years. But I quickly realized, amongst many things, that she was an extremely strong woman who loved her family!! She loved PEP, and loved some Arby’s or a slaw dog from French Fries every now and then. Linda also introduced me to Sweet Baby Ray Watermelons, she would say how much she loved them and how you had to pick just the right one. I couldn’t even begin to imagine howany lives Linda has touched, how many stories there are to share. Linda, will forever be missed!! Prayers for Richard and the family.

Linda,because of unfortunate circumstances, I was never allowed to properly say “Anything ” to you Linda “,that my heart Speaks in Volumes toward you”,& for you “,sad it is” yes,truly”, it is in time’s as these,Only God, Only God, Only God, can we turn to in our sadness,our tears,our disappointment, our misunderstandings,,& our questions,, & then thank God when the comfort arrives,,& allow comfort to others.You,to me ,we’re such a kind ,loving, & giving soul…always so very good to us, your employees, even when non deserving. Thank you for everything you put your heart & hand to ,to make my job better for me, I love you so much, & I know that in Heaven, your heart,soul mind&body ,are free, singing & dancing before the throne of God, I love you

  6. We were so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing, Bill and I enjoyed being at PEP with Linda she loved all the kids and everyone loved her she will be missed. God Bless You all ♥️🙏🙏

  7. Richard and family…. Words seem so inadequate at times like this. We know your heart is broken and your family is hurting… but …. Just look up into the heavens and know that Linda is there….finally free of pain…She is completely and perfectly HEALED….   15. I am so sorry to read of Linda’s passing. While working together at PEP, we shared so many laughs at the hilarious things which so often happened, as well as so many smiles of deep love for the precious kids we taught.
