Lloyd Carmon Owenby

Lloyd Carmon Owenby, 79, of 200 Tunnel Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. Mr. Owenby was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Amos C. and Bessie Mae Gryder Owenby. He was married to Blanche Warriner Owenby, who died in 2000 and was also preceded in death by a son, Patrick Owenby. Mr. Owenby was an Army Air Corps veteran of WW II and had worked for area motels as a maintenance engineer. He is survived by a son, Michael Owenby of Portland, OR; a step-daughter, Dorothy Robertson of Williamsburg, VA; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Oakley Baptist Church (where Mr. Owenby attended), 70 Fairview Avenue, Asheville, NC 28803.
