Lois Jenny Penland

Lois Jenny Penland, 92, of Candler, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the Hominy Valley Retirement Center. Mrs. Penland was born in Haywood County and was a daughter of the late Russell Wright and Emma Kerley Wright Cathey. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and she was married to Walter Blake Penland, who died in 1986, and was also preceded in death by a son, Bruce Elbert Penland in 1998. She is survived by two sons, Blake Penland, Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Candler, and Walter Bryce Penland and his wife, Linda, of Canton; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack W. Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service. The family expresses special thanks to Mack, Tammy, and Kevin and all the staff at Hominy Valley Retirement Center for their excellent care and love for more than 13 years. Memorials may be made to the Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 525 Old US Hgwy 19-23, Candler, NC 28715. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.
