LouAnn Fields Stover, age 69 of Asheville, NC left her earthly body early morning of Saturday, February 4, 2023. She was at home surrounded by her loving family.

LouAnn was born in Fayetteville, Georgia on August 1, 1953. She always spoke of the wonderful childhood memories she had with her mom, dad, and brother Bruce. She loved playing in their backyard, swimming in the pool and she could outrun any boy in a race.

LouAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Corine Fields and sister-in-law, Myra Fields. She is survived by a large family who love her very much. Her husband of 42 years, Chester Stover, brother Bruce Fields and nieces, Courtney and Taylor Fields of Knoxville, Tennessee. LouAnn has four children and many grandchildren who were the light of her world. Darah Wilson (Aric), Rebecca Ikeme (Chuma), Jacob Stover (Candice), Katie Mobley (Jon). Her grandchildren: Ariana, Arin, Makhi, Josiah, Zion, Emmeline, Asher, Cayden, Rakease, Kaylee, and Sophia. She loved and deeply touched each of these children and grandchildren. She is also survived by three stepchildren, Chester Jr., Mary, and Sara and several related grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Ellie and special friend, Susan Jenkins.

LouAnn taught school for many years, most recently at Grassy Branch Preschool. She had a gift for working with children. She impacted both the lives of her students and co-workers with her dance-offs, laughter and creativity.

She loved her grandchildren immensely and had a unique connection with each of them. She has played an essential role in all of their lives and made each feel special. She was always their number one fan by yelling and cheering them on at their sporting/dance events.

She enjoyed working in her yard, sitting on her back porch with her friend Susan, going to dinner with her husband, going out on the weekends with her children and grandchildren to shop and look around, and doing household projects. She had a tender heart for animals and a deep love for plants.

She was a loving wife, mom, gammy, sister, aunt, and friend to so many that will cherish her memories forever. She loved with pride and her lioness energy, and she was truly the matriarch of the family. The family can’t quite grasp the loss at the moment but knows where she is and that they will run into her arms again one day. Until then, all will remember her by her wit, funny personality, dancing, singing, and infectious laugh.
Please continue to hold the family in the light. LouAnn, Mommy, Gammy, keep dancing.

Please join her friends and family for a celebration of life at 11am on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Groce Funeral Home, 856 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805. A visitation will follow the service.

  2. Some of my best childhood memories were spent with LouAnn in her back yard and on her back porch. One of the funniest and greatest mothers and grandmother I ever knew. I always enjoyed spending time as a kid at The Stover’s. I still remember their landline phone number. Lol! Dara, Rebecca, Jacob, and Katie were like my brother and sisters in the neighborhood. I’m so sorry you lost her so soon! Love you guys!

  3. My heart hurts for you all. She was an amazing human who welcomed and loved everyone who came through her door. Sending so much love and prayers everyone’s way. You all are piece of her and will continue to shine her light in this world. All my love xo

  4. This sweet lady touched the lives of so many. She taught one of my children and 2 of my grandchildren at Beverly Hills & Grassy Branch preschools. SO MANY children and families have been blessed by her teaching and will continue to be impacted for years to come. She was the wittiest, smartest, funniest lady, not to mention best dancer ever! Family, we know this is a huge loss and share in your grief. We love you all and will continue to pray for each of you.

  5. I have always thought of LouAnn as my second mom. Even running straight to her house as soon as I found out I was having my boys. I have never once been around her and not left with a stomach ache from all the laughing. All of the memories will never leave me. We all love her not as a friend but as family. We will continue to pray for all of you and know we are just a phone call away.

  10. Mama Lou, that’s what I called her and what she was to me. She was like a second mother to me, and to so many. She was the most charismatic, witty, fun, smart, loving, caring person I knew. Not only was she my best friend Darah, of 30+ years mom, but she taught my son in kindergarten, and, of course, gave him special treatment. She deeply cared about anyone who was in her children and grandchildren‘s lives, including my family. LouAnn was one of a kind, she will be incredibly missed by everyone who was blessed to know her. My endless sympathies and prayers to her family. Until we meet again, you will live in our hearts forever. Love you Mama Lou❤️

  15. LouAnn was such an incredible spirit. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to know her— she was such a shining light in BOTH my kiddos’ worlds… as well as so many of the kids at Grassy Branch. We are praying for your sweet family. 16. This woman right here, Lou Ann Stover, was one of a kind. She was my first best friend in North Carolina. And my very first neighbor. She accepted me for who I was and passed no judgment. We became very close and even though we lived across the way from each other we still talked on the phone every day for hours. She got me into taking my kids to church and even singing in the church choir. We even sang a duet in front of the whole congregation. We got our kids together and did theme Halloween’s for several years. I knew I could always trust her and her judgment with any trials I had. Such a wonderful influence in my life and anyone else that she knew. She never met a stranger. She and her family were definitely part of my family ❤️ Even though we are now far in distance, I will miss you dear friend and hold every memory close to my heart. Please say a prayer for her children and family in these hard times. May you Rest In Peace Lou Ann 🙏🏼❤️🥲 Love you Darah, Rebecca, Jacob, Katie and Chester. My heart goes out to all of you and your families ❤️

  17. LouAnn was my sons first teacher. as a mom I was so nervous in the first day taking him to preschool leaving him for the first time with strangers. LouAnn welcomed him and myself with open arms and assurance that he was in safe hands. She would send me pictures of his day, always knowing how to reassure me he was doing just fine. I was so honored to know her. She was so sweet kind and thinking if others. May God be with her family as they take comfort knowing she is now resting in the arms of our Lord.

Heaven definitely got a good one.We all love you my dear friend.

This precious lady’s positive impact and influence extended far beyond the confines of her own home though. LouAnn was loved by so many people. We were blessed to know her, love her, and call her sister-in-law for over forty years.
