Louis Reiss, 91, of Deerfield Retirement Community, died on July 21, 2012 at Mission Hospital.
Born in Newark, NJ on December 2, 1920, to the late Louis and Theresa (Szikora) Reiss, he was also preceded in death by brother, William Reiss and sister, Marion Reiss (Sister Theresa Louis).
A graduate of Fordham University School of Business, Mr. Reiss was a Certified Public Accountant and held several executive positions at Pratt & Whitney Machinery Company in Hartford, CT and Motch & Merryweather Machine Tool Company in Cleveland, OH.
Mr. Reiss was actively involved in all of his Catholic parishes as a lector and he was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Gates Mills, OH. For 47 years he provided leadership in all fund raising activities at St. Francis of Assisi, Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, NC and the Deerfield Retirement Community in Asheville, NC.
Surviving Mr. Reiss are his loving wife of 65 years, Grace (Eturaspe) Reiss; two sons, Louis Reiss of Germantown, TN and Paul Reiss and his wife, Donna, of Dayton, OH; one daughter, Michele Maslak and her husband, Joe, of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Reiss) Newell, Shauna Reiss, Brian Reiss, Matthew Reiss, Jared Maslak and Evan Maslak as well as two great-grandchildren, Sophia Newell and Wesley Newell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Giles Chapel of Deerfield Retirement Community with Father Adrian Porras of St. Barnabas Catholic Church officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 1:30 PM in the Blue Ridge Room at Deerfield Retirement Community Center, 1617 Hendersonville Rd. in Asheville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in Louis' memory to St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 109 Crescent Hill Rd, Arden, NC 28704 or to the Deerfield Residency Fund, 1617 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville, NC 28803.
