Louise R. Carter

Mrs. Carter was born November 9, 1927, in Asheville, and was a daughter of the late Hardy Thomas and Sadie Redman Rhymer. She was also preceded in death by a brother Roy Thomas Rhymer of Asheville and a sister Mable Elizabeth Robinson of Greensboro.
She was a 1945 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and a 1948 graduate of the Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing. She did post-graduate work in administration at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, and in Administration and Supervision at UNC-Chapel Hill. Other skills were added through studies undertaken at Asheville-Buncombe Technical College, Western Carolina University, and the University of Michigan.
Mrs. Carter was named the Buncombe County Nurse of the Year in 1973 by the Buncombe County Medical Society. She held positions as Emergency Room Supervisor, Nursing Supervisor, and Associate Director of Nursing at Memorial Mission Hospital, Director of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital and Aston Park Health Care Center.
She was past-president of Memorial Mission Hospital Alumni Association and former member of NC State Nurses Association, District #1, and the American Nurses Association. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and the Winsome Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband, Parnell Carter; a daughter, Linda Laney Moffatt and her husband Richard of Asheville; two step-daughters, LaNita Carter Cloninger and her husband Jack of Weaverville and Teresa Carter Holt and her husband Branson of Denver, NC; two sisters, Helen Rhymer Cator of Washington, DC and Marian Rhymer (Bobbie) Bennett of Asheville; a granddaughter Kimberly Moffatt Quinn; a grandson Richie Moffatt and his wife Sonya Presnell Moffatt; two step-grandsons, Justin Cloninger of Weaverville and Branson Carter Holt of Denver, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Emily Moffatt Dotson, Sandy Carol Dotson, and Dallas Moffatt, all of Asheville.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday at West Asheville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Lewis and the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 7:30 - 9:00 pm Sunday at West Asheville Baptist Church.
